Rosie Appeal URGENT APPEAL FOR FUNDS TO HELP ROSIE, THE POORLY LURCHER

Rosie is a four year old Lurcher girl, now under the care of Animal Helpline, who was picked up by the Police and Dog Warden in the Peterborough area after being hit by a motor vehicle or possibly thrown from one. She suffered extensive injuries to both hind legs with traumatic dislocation of the right hip and severe musculature damage. Her left leg suffered an open fracture and associated ligament damage. There was also extensive bruising plus several open wounds. Surgery was performed to stabilise the fracture with a plate and the musculature of the right leg reattached by means of screw and washer.

The fact this lovely girl survived is due to the persistence of the Dog Warden in going the extra mile in ensuring adequate pain relief was made available and enlisting the help of the RSPCA. Several bodies were approached to assist in covering the costs involved - amongst those agreeing to help were Peterborough Council, Dogs Trust and Blue Cross. Although some of the primary care has been covered, funds are still desperately required due to the extensive surgery involved, and funding for the post-operative phase is also required to cover dressings, consultations, drugs and secondary suturing.

Although there were possibilities that Rosie could have been re-homed up north it was decided in view of the extensive injuries it would be in her best interests to minimise travel if possible and thus Frank and Hazel, experienced fosterers, agreed to take Rosie in for convalescence. She is now receiving the very best of care and one to one attention in a warm and comfy home.

Frank has provided the following update on Rosie:

Rosie is a lovely looking girl with a tan coat. Her tail wags whenever you approach or pass by and if allowed I am sure she would be dashing around as if nothing had happened. Her physical appearance suggests she has been used for breeding. She will be staying with us and our two Greyhounds and two Lurchers (one named Rosie who is 16) until she has recovered as fully as it is possible before seeking her forever home.

Rosie has settled in well although a little apprehensive when the other residents pass her cage to go into the garden. She has the largest cage that's in normal use with carpeted liner and comfortable bedding. She loves being talked to and cuddles and is a very clean dog. How she can be so happy, her tail wags every time she sees you, I really don't know after what she's been through.

PLEASE HELP US TO GIVE ROSIE THE HAPPY AND HEALTHY LIFE SHE DESERVES.

update about Rosie from Frank, her foster dad:

Rosie is still a very cheerful girl in spite of her problems. We have been trying to get the swelling down as well as getting rid of the infection in her plated leg, there have been some encouraging signs but it isn't going to happen overnight.

Doesn't her leg look sore, poor girl xx
