WOODY LABRADOR CROSS MALE.

Woody is a 3 year old male Labrador Cross . Woody is a friendly lad who is looking for a cat free home and cannot live with small furies. He enjoys a fuss and would do well in a fairly active home. Woody is looking for a home with somenone home most of the day and no children

Volunteer update:

* Love this boy, Woody has been with us over a year now and although not a straighforward home he has proved to many of us volunteers what a great boy he is. Woody loves his walks and is partial to a treat, he is happy to give you a paw or two and takes them nicely. He does need a home with set boundaries and would respond well with guidance. Again a great character for the right home.

SIMON MALE MASTIFF.

Simon is a male Mastiff and is looking for a large breed experienced home, poor Simon didn`t have the best start in life but now is understanding that this world is a beautiful place. Home without children.

Foster update:

Simon had a great sleepover with one of our fantastic volunteers and proved to be a real gent who is willing to learn and got plenty of love to give:

I was able to take Simon, one of our long termers home for a couple of nights last week. Simon is a young Mastiff who has not seen much of the world and is quite nervous and easily startled as a result, but having walked him and his kennel mate regularly over the past year I’ve seen his confidence build, and he really enjoys his walks with us so I thought it would be nice to see how he got on in a home environment.

The whole experience was new for him from getting in the car (a follow-me tactic using sausage bribery worked well!) to seeing a television but he was a delight to have. Not knowing how he would get on overnight he spent the first night in his bed in the hallway and once I had him settled he was a perfect guest. I don’t think he’s actually been toilet-trained but is obviously a naturally clean dog, and given regular opportunities to go outside he showed no inclination to make any sort of mess in the house and couldn’t have been better in this respect. We quickly established a couple of safe spots on the old sofa and his bed so he had somewhere to retreat to if things got a bit daunting, but as his confidence grew I quickly developed a 4 legged shadow who was keen to follow me round. A long walk around Ferry Meadows saw him behave nicely around strangers and accept a pat on the head after a little reassurance. With space he generally ignored other dogs if they ignored him but does sometimes “stalk” and then pull after other dogs in a more confined environment such as a narrow track. I saw absolutely no sign of aggression but given his size and strength it’s a good idea to be a little cautious around other dogs for the time being.

Passing traffic was no problem and he quickly got the hang of getting in the car and being happy to lie down on the back seat without any fuss. Back home, he soon showed he has a healthy appetite and we spent some quality time together with no sign of any food or bed possessiveness whatsoever. On the second night I brought his bed into the bedroom and he was happy to curl up for the night - again, absolutely no problems although he does snore a little! Although he is still nervous around things he’s not seen before in only 2 days I saw a real difference in his confidence; however, what was really nice was his underlying temperament. Simon really is a lovable big softy who just wants cuddles and a comfy warm sofa in a quite house. He’s used to being with a female kennel mate so I also wonder if a home with an older large breed bitch might be a good option for him where he can learn and build his confidence with another dog. Simon has been with us for too long and its time that this loveable hound found his forever home.” SEE MORE
