Libby and Belle are Collie cross females of between 7 and 9 years of age. As our longest residents, they have been in kennels for some time and are now fully over due for a new loving forever home. These girls require a certain kind of home, but please don’t be put off by this because your home might be just what they are looking for.
Libby and Belle originally came from another rescue who believed they would never find a new home. They have suffered abuse in the past and as a result were scared of everything and everyone. Animal Helpline were determined to help them however, and it is due to the dedication of our volunteers that these two girls have grown in confidence. They were recently lucky enough to find a foster home and despite the considerable amount of time they previously spent in kennels they have proved themselves very adaptable and capable of living in a home as part of a family.
Libby is the more confident of the two. Now happy to have a fuss from her foster mum, she likes to follow her around and bury her head into her lap for a fuss. She wags her tail and is an affectionate girl. She’s also the lazier of the two and likes to sleep a lot, enjoying the security of her bed. In her new home she will need a secure area where she can have some quiet time; perhaps a bed or crate in a corner of the room. Libby loves the garden too and enjoys having a race around, so she will also need access to a garden in her new home.
Belle will have a cuddle with you, but she is the more timid of the girls. She is improving every day and will need a new home with someone who can continue to help her confidence grow. Belle is more interested in things now and she enjoys the garden and being able to go in and out at her leisure. She is more playful and has been enjoying playing chase with the resident dogs. She is finding home life a big joy and excitedly greets her foster mum every morning with a waggy tail. During the day she enjoys watching her foster mum going about everyday chores and especially likes cooking time!
Libby and Belle both live with other dogs and although they were a little timid of the larger dogs to begin with, they have both got over this and get on well with all other resident dogs. Libby can be a little possessive of her food, so is best fed separately (she loves her food and is currently on a mini diet). Both girls sleep quietly downstairs through the night and during the day they are happy to be left and are toilet trained. With proper introductions these two could probably live with cats.
The outdoor world is now a big enjoyment for them both and Belle in particular loves her walks. They both walk well and are easy to walk together on a double lead. Recently they have seen swans and cows and they were in awe with their eyes wide in wonderment!
Libby and Belle travel well now, but to begin with they were unsure of getting into a vehicle. They now know that travelling involves a nice walk at the end of the journey, so they are jumping in without much hesitation. They travel much better either in a crate or behind a dog guard.
A home without young children is needed for Libby and Belle because they don’t enjoy a lot of noise. A family home with teenagers or an adult-only home would suit them perfectly and visiting children would be fine provided they both had a quiet bed or crate they could retreat to if they felt the need. They would like a quiet home without too much hustle and bustle and they will need plenty of time to settle and adjust to their new environment.
What these two suffered before coming into rescue we can only imagine; trauma, physical and emotional most certainly, but now they are looking forward to the future and after spending so long in kennels we feel it is their time for a loving new home. They may be a pair, but in this case two is indeed no different to one, so please consider them. They are truly what rescue is all about and to see them wag their tails and know they are placing their trust in you for the first time really melts your heart.
